• Rekka grew up wanting to become a Makai Knight, despite tradition forbidding women to become Knights. As a result, she comes off as intensely brash and tomboy-ish, feeling that her femininity was something that was holding her back. This also resulted in her having a negative bias toward other women, stating that they are “loud and annoying”.


• Because of the restrictions on women becoming Knights, she was instead put on the path to becoming a Makai Priestess. Even so, she had at one point declared her intent to become a Knight in front of a group of Knight trainees when she had snuck off in the middle of her training (Which we also find out that one of those Knight trainees was actually Kouga). At one point in the middle of her training, her father was killed trying to destroy the Apostle Horror Karma, which only strengthened her resolve to become stronger on her own and she developed a burning desire to defeat any and all Horrors without anyone else’s help.


• Eventually, this leads her to cross paths with Kouga Saejima, the Golden Knight GARO. The two team up (reluctantly at first) to defeat Karma, with Rekka being able to use her custom Makai Brush/Flute to summon the spirits of the Knights that Karma had killed (including her father, Kengi) to assist Kouga in defeating her. Afterward, she gives a Makai Dragon to Kouga as a parting gift.


• Rekka then shows up later to ask Kouga’s assistance in defeating a particularly nasty Horror, which also had her meeting Kaoru Mitsuki, Kouga’s love interest. After being dismissive of her at first, Rekka then comes to admire Kaoru’s strength of spirit, a far cry from how she was when Kouga first met her. However, as pointed out during a sparring session with Kouga, Rekka still has a long way to go in tempering her recklessness, seeing as she was all offense and no defense in their spar.


• Eventually, she begins working and training alongside another Makai Priestess, Jabi, who is also a childhood friend of Kouga’s. She is one of the few women Rekka has been shown to be genuinely friendly around, developing something resembling a sisterly bond with her, and even at one point becoming Jabi’s apprentice.

There’s a secret society dedicated to eliminating monsters called Horrors that prey upon the darkest parts of humanity - the Makai Order. Makai Knights and Priests are sworn to protect humanity and cut down these demons, even if it means they die in the process. Rekka herself comes from a long line of Makai warriors, and held her father in high regard. His death, coupled with her ambitions of becoming a Knight despite her gender, had formed her into a highly capable fighter, but that same drive had made her blunt, reckless and vengeful. With Kouga and Jabi’s help, however, those traits have been tempered somewhat, allowing her to show a softer side to her personality. Her drive to protect is just as strong as any Knight's, despite how prickly she may seem. A prime example of her drive to protect and how far she's come from when she was first introduced being that she was willing to summon an illusion of the GARO armor in order to protect a young girl from being attacked by malevolent spirits of fallen Makai Knights after finding out that she couldn't simply beat them back with magic.
